![]() ![]() I really enjoyed this book and I think anyone who loves mysteries, especially with signs and riddles, will as well. I had never heard of semioticians before so this was a fun learning experience, plus it’s always great to learn more about Vikings. However, the plot makes the wait entirely worthwhile. This relationship is one of those slow-burn ones where it takes three more books in the series before they realize they both love each other as more than friends. Evan and Addie don’t have much time to stop the Viking Poet before they become victims themselves. The bodies are starting to pile up and it looks like Evan might be on the killer’s list. Evan discovers these are Viking runes written in the form of a poem and once he decodes them, Evan and Addie discover, the killer isn’t done yet. ![]() Right away, she notices the runes placed around the body, which tells her she will need the help of her best friend, forensic semiotician Dr. That he preferred to avoid dead bodies unless they were at least several centuries old. That he wanted out of the forensics business. Detective Bisset and her partner, Detective Patrick McBrody, certainly have a weird case. The world-building is well-crafted, creating a distinct backdrop for the story to unfold. Speaking of the narrator, their development and enigma will undoubtedly be enjoyable. The novel is filled with whimsy, humor, excitement, and even thought-provoking philosophical musings from the narrator. If you’ve read any cozy fantasy comics already, you might notice that a few obvious choices are missing from this list. This genre of comics allows you to enjoy standard fantasy elements - including fairy tales, supernatural creatures, magic schools, and more - without causing your anxiety to spike. And why not? Sure, epic adventure stories are great, but they’re also really intense, and sometimes you’re just not up for all that stress. Enough with the superheroic fisticuffs, grim social commentary, and horror tales!
